DescriptionKofukuji’s Eastern Golden Hall enshrines a seated Yakushi Nyorai as its principal image. Yakushi has long been revered as a Buddha who stays close to people suffering from illness and hardship. Nikko and Gakko Bosatsu and the Twelve Heavenly Generals are also enshrined in the hall, bringing together peaceful healing, powerful protection and solemnity. It is one of Kofukuji’s essential Buddhist-image spaces, with a devotional character distinct from the Central Golden Hall.
