DescriptionKōfuku-ji’s Northern Round Hall enshrines the National Treasure seated Miroku Nyorai completed in 1212 under the overall direction of Unkei. Although Miroku is the Buddha who will appear in the distant future, the image shows him already fully awakened, anticipating that future arrival. The lifelike National Treasure statues of the scholar-monks Mujaku and Seshin stand nearby, giving visible form to the Hossō tradition. Together, the figures embody the mature power, dignity, and psychological depth of Kamakura sculpture.
