Description

The National Treasure Kudara Kannon statue is enshrined in the Kudara Kannon Hall of Horyuji Temple's Great Treasure Gallery. A representative wooden sculpture of the Asuka period, it stands 209.4 cm tall. Its slender, elongated body, gentle face, and ornate halo are distinctive. During the Edo period it was regarded as Kokuzo Bosatsu, but after a crown with a small Buddha figure was found in the Meiji period, it came to be known as Kudara Kannon. The Great Treasure Gallery is normally open from 8:00 to 17:00 from February 22 to November 3, and from 8:00 to 16:30 from November 4 to February 21.
