Description

The National Treasure standing Shishiku Bosatsu is displayed in Toshodaiji Temple's Shin-Hozo Treasure Hall. This wooden image belongs to the late eighth-century group once housed in the old Lecture Hall. It is understood to have originally represented Fukukensaku Kannon with three eyes and four arms, and its broad Tang-style modeling preserves the distinctive character of early Buddhist sculpture associated with Toshodaiji.
