Description

An Important Cultural Property standing Shaka Nyorai is enshrined in a shrine inside Toshodaiji Temple's Raido Hall. Made in 1258 and about 1.66 m tall, it is a Seiryoji-style image distinguished by rope-like hair and a robe covering both shoulders. Numerous dedicatory documents found inside the statue confirm its date, and it is specially displayed during the annual Shaka Nenbutsu-e rites.
