Description

The National Treasure standing Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu is enshrined in Murouji Temple's Treasure Hall. Dating to the early Heian period, it combines a refined, gentle face with a firmly modeled body. It is thought to have originally been made as an attendant image for the principal image of the Kondo, and its Yaerengeza lotus pedestal also preserves the style of early Heian-period sculpture. Formerly enshrined in the inner sanctuary of the Kondo, it was moved to the Treasure Hall completed in 2020 for better preservation. The Treasure Hall is normally open from 9:00 to 16:30 from April 1 to November 30, and from 9:30 to 15:30 from December 1 to March 31, with admission until 15:00.
