Description

The National Treasure Sho Kannon Bosatsu statue is enshrined as the principal image of Yakushiji Temple's Toindo Hall. Dating to the Hakuho period, its treatment of the thin robe, through which the legs seem visible, is said to reflect the influence of Indian Gupta art. The refined standing figure lowers the right hand quietly, raises the left hand gently, holds the chest upright, and keeps both feet together. Toindo Hall is included in the regular Hakuho precinct admission and can be visited from 9:00 to 17:00, with admission until 16:30.
