Description

Daigo-ji’s Kannon Hall enshrines Cundī, known in Japan as Juntei Kannon, the principal image of the 11th temple on the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage. The devotion was formerly centered on Junteidō in Kami-Daigo, which was destroyed by lightning in 2008; today it continues in the Kannon Hall of Shimo-Daigo, with a special unveiling held around May 18 each year. While Yakushi Nyorai is Daigo-ji’s principal image, Juntei Kannon embodies the temple’s identity as a major Kannon pilgrimage site.
