Description

Daigo-ji’s National Treasure Kondō (Golden Hall) stands at the center of the Shimo-Daigo complex. Its principal image is a seated Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha), flanked by Nikkō and Gakkō Bodhisattvas; all three are Important Cultural Properties. The hall was transferred from Yuasa in Kii Province at Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s order and preserves the style of the late Heian period. Here, prayers for healing illness and averting calamity meet the quiet authority of one of Daigo-ji’s central sacred spaces.
