DescriptionThe treasure hall at Shiromineji, Temple No. 81 of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, preserves a wooden standing statue of Kisshoten dating to the Heian period. Although only about 44 cm tall, this image was carved from a single piece of Japanese kaya wood together with its pedestal and retains the character of early Buddhist sculpture. Kisshoten is a heavenly goddess associated with good fortune, prosperity and auspiciousness. The original was formerly enshrined in the temple's Bentendo hall but was moved to the treasure hall for preservation; a replica now stands in the former shrine. Designated a Tangible Cultural Property by Kagawa Prefecture in 1975, the original can be viewed by booking at least ten days in advance. Treasure-hall reception is from 9:00 to 15:00. Admission is ¥700 for adults, plus a separate ¥200 donation for entry to the temple grounds.
