Description

During restoration of Kōmyō-ji’s Great Hall, the Founder’s Hall serves as the temporary main sanctuary, where Amida Buddha and other sacred images formerly enshrined in the Great Hall may be worshipped. The hall also preserves portraits of the founding priest and successive abbots. Set near the sea at Zaimokuza, this head temple of Jōdo-shū brings together the open brightness of the coastal precinct and the quiet assurance of nenbutsu devotion. Even during major repairs, the temple’s central prayer to Amida continues without interruption.
