Description

The wooden statues of the Twenty-Eight Attendant Deities can be viewed in the treasure repository at Seishinji Temple. Dating to the Kamakura period, the surviving figures are made in joined-wood construction with crystal-inlaid eyes and display a powerful sculptural style. They have been preserved as attendant deities protecting the temple’s principal Thousand-Armed Kannon and are designated Important Cultural Properties of Hiroshima Prefecture. As a group of medieval Buddhist sculptures at a temple closely associated with the Kobayakawa clan, they are particularly rewarding to see and are normally open to visitors.
