Description

The Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu enshrined in Daisho-in’s Kannon Hall is traditionally attributed to Gyoki. It was originally worshipped as the honji-butsu, or Buddhist manifestation, of Itsukushima Shrine and was moved to Daisho-in following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji era. The image is also associated with the faith of Taira no Kiyomori and the Taira clan, preserving the history of syncretic worship on Miyajima. It can be worshipped during the temple’s opening hours from 8:00 to 17:00.
