Description

This wooden seated Thousand-Armed Kannon Bosatsu was made in 1303 and is designated an Important Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture. Carved from hinoki wood using the split-and-hollowed single-block technique, it was created as an unpainted image in the manner of a danzo sculpture. The work is associated with the mature period of the Nara sculptor Kakusei and is considered a valuable example of a Japanese-style danzo image from the Kamakura period. Advance contact with Jigen-in is required for viewing.
