Description

A pair of wooden Kongo Rikishi statues is enshrined in the Nio halls attached to both sides of the bell gate. Inscriptions inside the statues date them to 1658, and they are designated Important Cultural Properties of Tsuyama City. The bell gate with its attached Nio halls was built in 1644 and preserves an unusual integrated arrangement. Aizenji is said to have been founded in 1605 and stands in the temple district along the former Izumo Kaido road. The grounds are freely accessible, and the statues can be worshipped from outside the Nio Hall.
