Description

The Treasure Hall of Kozanji, a temple traditionally said to have been founded by Gyoki in 731, houses a nationally designated Important Cultural Property wooden standing Jizo Bosatsu, a nationally designated wooden seated Fudo Myoo, and a prefecturally designated wooden standing Eleven-Faced Kannon. The Jizo is a Heian-period single-block carving in cherry wood; records inside the image describe the 1707 Hoei earthquake and the eruption of Mount Fuji. The Fudo dates to 1442 and is characterized by a massive body and a comparatively restrained wrathful expression. The Eleven-Faced Kannon is a mid-Heian single-block hinoki carving with a well-balanced figure. All three may be viewed by reservation, free of charge.
