Description

This wooden standing Amida Nyorai bears an inscription dating it to 1248 and is designated an Important Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture. The 65 cm figure is made of joined hinoki wood, left largely unpainted and finished with an aged surface treatment. Ink inscriptions inside the image record information including the patron, sculptor, and date of production, providing valuable evidence of Buddhist image-making in the Kamakura period. It is opened free of charge each year on September 18 from 11:00 to 13:00; viewing at other times requires advance contact.
