Description

A Yakushi triad is enshrined in a Yakushido Hall built inside a large rock cave about 100 meters behind the temple. The images are traditionally attributed to Gyoki, although the official information does not specify a production date. Iwayaji is an old Koyasan Shingon temple and is said to have been restored by the monk Kakuson in 1682. To the right of the cave is a waterfall over 10 meters high, and Buddhist figures and Sanskrit seed syllables are carved into the surrounding rock walls. The temple is open daily with free admission, offering a distinctive devotional setting where natural rock formations and Buddhist imagery come together.
