Description

The National Treasure Eight Attendant Boys preserved by Koyasan Reihokan are attendants of Fudo Myoo. Six of the eight figures date to the Kamakura period and are attributed to Unkei and his workshop; the remaining two are later replacements designated as associated objects of the National Treasure. Their varied expressions and poses exemplify the realism and tension of Kamakura-period sculpture. They are not permanently displayed, so visitors should check current exhibition information.
