Description

Koryuji’s Treasure Hall displays the National Treasure wooden standing Thousand-Armed Kannon from the Heian period. Built in joined-wood construction, the monumental figure presents the many-armed form of Kannon on an impressive scale, combining a strong frontal presence with the refined dignity and volume characteristic of Heian Buddhist sculpture. Shown year-round alongside the temple’s Miroku images and Twelve Heavenly Generals, it is one of the major works that reveals the extraordinary depth of Koryuji’s sculpture collection.
