DescriptionRokuharamitsuji’s Reiwakan displays an Important Cultural Property wooden seated Jizo Bosatsu from the Kamakura period. Temple tradition attributes the statue to Unkei, and it was formerly the principal image of Juurin-in, the ancestral temple of Unkei’s family. Known as “Yumemi Jizo,” it is especially admired for its refined, handsome face and the varied, lively folds of its robes. At Juurin-in it was enshrined together with seated portraits of Unkei and Tankei, linking the image closely to the faith of the Kei-school sculptors. The original statue can normally be viewed in Reiwakan from 9:00 to 16:15.
