Description

Hojoji Temple in Kameoka, Kyoto, enshrines a seated Shaka Nyorai as its principal image. The temple’s official site states that the statue was donated by Tofukumon-in Kazuko, consort of Emperor Go-Mizunoo. Hojoji was founded in 1641 under the patronage of the retired Emperor Go-Mizunoo, with the Zen monk Isshi Bunshu as its founding abbot. The principal image therefore remains closely tied to the temple’s imperial history and living religious identity. Visits to the Main Hall and garden are available by advance reservation from 9:00 to 16:00.
