DescriptionHase-dera’s Kannon Hall enshrines its principal image, the Eleven-Headed Kannon affectionately known as Hase Kannon. At 9.18 meters, it is one of the largest wooden Buddhist statues in Japan and the focus of the fourth temple on the Bandō Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage. Despite its monumental scale, the image’s calm expression seems to receive each worshipper gently. The flower-filled hillside grounds and views across Kamakura and Sagami Bay unite the grandeur of a great image with an open, welcoming atmosphere.
