Description

Gansenji preserves a secret image of Nyoirin Kannon that is normally kept closed from public view. The shrine is opened during special viewing periods in spring and autumn; in autumn 2026 the image is scheduled to be shown from October 1 through November 30. During the same period, the temple also unveils secret images of Benzaiten and Rasetsuten. This offers a rare encounter with a very different side of Gansenji from its regularly viewable monumental Amida Buddha and gives visitors a clear reason to come specifically during the unveiling period.
