Description

A small temple in Keihoku Kaminakacho. Its Treasure Repository houses a wooden standing Zochoten dating to the Heian period and designated an Important Cultural Property. The grounds are freely accessible, but the temple is normally unmanned, so advance contact is required to view the important Buddhist image. The Kyoto Tourism Federation recommends arranging a visit around the spring or autumn equinox services. Although access is limited, it is a rewarding place to encounter a Heian-period heavenly guardian image directly in a quiet rural temple setting.
