Description

An old Koyasan Shingon temple overlooking Kumihama Bay. Its Fudo Hall enshrines the Higiri Fudo Myoo, traditionally said to have been carved by Kukai with his fingernail, and prayers are performed there every day. The present Fudo Hall was rebuilt in 1983 as a 26-meter-high two-story hogo-style structure blending Japanese, Chinese, and Indian architectural elements. Yakushi Nyorai, Bishamonten, and En no Gyoja are also enshrined inside. Admission to the temple grounds is free, and visitors can encounter a living tradition of Fudo devotion that continues through daily prayer.
