Description

A Soto Zen temple in Keihoku Shimonakacho. Tradition holds that it originated as Yugedera, founded by Gyoki in 711. The repository houses a wooden seated Yakushi Nyorai together with standing Jikokuten and Zochoten statues from the Fujiwara period, all designated Important Cultural Properties. Its main attraction is the chance to view a group of Heian-period Buddhist sculptures centered on Yakushi Nyorai. The temple grounds are freely accessible, but advance reservations are required to view the Important Cultural Property statues.
