Description

The hidden principal image of Koninji Temple is Kokuzo Bosatsu, traditionally attributed to Kobo Daishi. Long revered locally as the Kokuzo of Takahi, the image is especially associated with the Jusan-mairi pilgrimage, in which children around age thirteen pray for wisdom and good fortune. It remains the devotional center of the temple today. Normally kept hidden, the image will be specially opened to the public in the Main Hall from November 1 to 30, 2026, from 13:00 to 16:00.
