DescriptionThe Important Cultural Property standing Sho Kannon Bosatsu is enshrined as the principal image of Futaiji Temple's Main Hall. This polychrome single-block wooden statue dates to the Heian period and, according to temple tradition, was carved by the poet Ariwara no Narihira himself, giving it the popular name “Narihira Kannon.” It is especially known for the long bands descending from its crown, which resemble large ribbons, together with a gentle expression and graceful stance. Once kept hidden for long periods, the image is now on permanent view in the Main Hall from 9:00 to 17:00, with admission until around 16:50.
