DescriptionThe wooden seated Amida Nyorai is the principal image of Taisanji Temple’s Amida Hall. About 2.74 meters high, it is a monumental jo-roku image made with the joined-block technique and is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The Amida Hall was rebuilt in 1688 and was originally used as a Tendai practice hall for constant walking meditation; as devotion to Amida grew, it came to be known as the Amida Hall. The image can be worshipped in the hall during regular temple visiting hours.
