DescriptionThe principal image of Kannō-ji Temple’s Main Hall is a wooden seated Nyoirin Kannon from the Heian period, designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Temple tradition attributes the image to Kūkai, while the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History dates it to the late 10th or early 11th century. Nishinomiya City introduces it as one of Japan’s three celebrated Nyoirin Kannon images. It is normally kept hidden and is unveiled each year on May 18 during the Yūzū Kannon Festival, when the public may worship it.
