DescriptionThe principal image of the Oku-no-in Juntei Hall at Ensho-ji Temple is a wooden standing Juntei Kannon. This early-Heian-period figure has one face and eight arms and is designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Osaka Prefecture. Juntei Kannon is revered as a mother of the Buddhas and is especially associated with prayers for conception and safe childbirth. Normally hidden, the image is unveiled twice a year at the First Kannon service in January and the Sennichi Mairi in July. Participants in the service are guided into the hall afterward for a close viewing; at other times it is worshipped from outside the hall.
