DescriptionThe Ichigan Fudo Myo-o is enshrined in Ichigan-do Hall at Taiyuji Temple. This stone standing image is the principal Fudo of the sixth temple on the Kinki Thirty-Six Fudo Pilgrimage. Fudo Myo-o and two attendant youths stand at the far end of the open hall, where incense burners and candle stands face the image. Long affectionately known as “Ichigan Fudo,” it is worshipped for the fulfillment of a single heartfelt wish and continues to draw a steady stream of visitors. Taiyuji is traditionally said to have been founded by Kukai in 821 under the patronage of Emperor Saga. The temple grounds are open from 8:00 to 17:00, and admission is free.
