DescriptionThe Treasure House of Hachiyo Rengeji Temple preserves a wooden standing Amida Nyorai by the Kamakura-period sculptor Kaikei. Measuring 82.4 cm high, it is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. An ink inscription on the left foot tenon identifies Kaikei as the sculptor, and the image is considered an early work made before he received the Buddhist sculptor rank of Hokkyō in 1203. The main body is made of cypress split and joined front-to-back, hollowed internally, fitted with crystal eyes, and finished with lacquer and gold leaf. It is normally closed to the public but is shown about twice a year through Katano City’s designated-cultural-property openings; in spring 2026 it was displayed by advance application on April 25.
