DescriptionThe Main Hall of Kabusanji Temple houses a nationally designated Important Cultural Property group consisting of a wooden seated Amida Nyorai and two wooden standing Sho Kannon Bosatsu images. The seated Amida is considered a work of the late Heian period and stands about 85 cm high. Temple tradition tells that Tachibana no Sukemoto, suffering from an incurable illness, recovered after repeatedly chanting the nembutsu before this image. Together with the two Sho Kannon statues, it was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1950. The statues are not normally open to the public, but can be worshipped in the Main Hall through the temple’s advance-reservation “Haibutsu” program.
