Description

The wooden standing Bishamonten is preserved in the Treasure House of Eifukuji Temple. It is thought to date from the Heian period and was carved from a single piece of cypress, with the eyes rendered by carving. The figure measures 153.5 cm high and reaches 216 cm including its halo and pedestal, presenting a commanding armored image of Bishamonten. The Treasure House displays sculpture, paintings, calligraphy and documents belonging to the temple and is open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 9:30 to 16:30, except in January and February. Because exhibits are changed periodically, visitors should confirm in advance whether this statue is on display.
