Description

The Seated Dainichi Nyorai is the principal image enshrined inside Jigenin Temple’s National Treasure Tahoto Pagoda. Dating from the Heian period, the statue is designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Osaka Prefecture. The pagoda itself was built in the Kamakura period and is counted among Japan’s three celebrated pagodas together with those at Ishiyamadera and Kongosanmaiin on Mount Koya; it is also one of only six surviving Tahoto pagodas designated as National Treasures. The interior is normally closed, and the principal image is unveiled only from January 1 to 3 each year.
