DescriptionRyufukuji Temple's principal image is a Wooden Seated Yakushi Nyorai, a 12th-century Heian-period work designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The temple is affectionately known as “Taki no Yakushi.” According to tradition, it originated when Saicho visited the area and enshrined Yakushi Nyorai while praying for the recovery of people suffering from an epidemic. The image remains enshrined in the main hall. Advance reservation is required, with admission by donation.
