DescriptionThe Wooden Seated Yakushi Nyorai enshrined at Daidenji Temple (Kio Yakushido) is traditionally dated to the late Heian period and is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The imposing seated image stands 143.8 cm high, and its gentle expression, with the eyes lowered in a half-closed gaze, clearly reflects Heian-period characteristics. A local tradition holds that it and the Yakushi Nyorai at nearby Uryu Yakushido were carved around the same time from the same tree. Advance reservation is required for viewing.
