DescriptionThe wooden standing Eleven-Faced Kannon is enshrined in Doganji Kannon Hall. Dating from the Heian period, it is designated a National Treasure of Japan. Known for its graceful form and refined, compassionate expression, it is one of the representative images of Kannon devotion in the Kohoku region. Tradition holds that villagers buried the statue underground to protect it during wartime, and it can now be viewed in the Kannon Hall.
