Paintings of flying celestial beings and decorative hosoge motifs remain inside, creating a space centered on Amida that evokes the Pure Land. Although the principal image of the temple as a whole is Yakushi Nyorai, the Amida Hall is one of Hokaiji’s defining Buddhist-image spaces, conveying quiet peace and the purity of Pure Land devotion.
