DescriptionThis enormous 100-meter-tall White-Robed Kannon rises on a hill in Izumi Ward, Sendai. Inside are the Twelve Heavenly Generals, the Thirty-Three Kannon, and 108 Buddhist statues, while the upper levels reached by elevator offer views over Sendai and toward the Pacific Ocean. Its overwhelming presence in the city conveys both protective dignity and solemnity.
