DescriptionEnjoji Temple's principal image is a monumental seated Amida Nyorai of joroku scale. Tradition holds that a devotee of the eminent Edo-period priest Kantsu Shonin sacrificed his wealth to donate the image. Its immense form rises toward the ceiling, while its expression is noted for compassion and serenity. The official Jodo Shu temple directory states that many worshippers offer prayers before this principal image. The opportunity to encounter such a large Amida inside the temple's two-story main hall makes Enjoji a particularly memorable Buddhist-image destination in Tsushima.
