DescriptionThe Senbutsudo Cave on the grounds of Muryoji Temple contains a remarkable group of Buddhist images. Modeled after cave temples in Dunhuang, Luoyang and Lanzhou in China, its dimly lit walls are lined with one thousand stone Buddhas, while a Gandharan Buddha and a large seated Dainichi Tathagata are enshrined deeper inside. Visitors can walk through the cave and view the many images at close range. Admission is free and the site is open year-round.
