DescriptionA clay Buddha head from the Nara period displayed in Shinpukuji Temple’s Bodaijukan Treasure Museum. Designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Aichi Prefecture, it is regarded as the oldest surviving clay Buddha head in the prefecture. The Tathagata-type head was formed by layering clay and, despite damage from fire, still preserves the calm modeling of an ancient Buddhist image. It is publicly displayed together with two other Buddha heads preserved at Shinpukuji. The museum is currently open only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
