DescriptionThe Nagoya Great Buddha stands in the grounds of Toganji Temple and was erected in 1987. This bronze seated figure by Buddhist sculptor Nagata Seizan is 10 meters high and reaches 15 meters including its pedestal. Instead of a conventional lotus pedestal, the statue is supported by ten elephants, and its vivid green body with gold-colored eyes, lips, ears and other details gives it a distinctive appearance. It can be viewed on the temple grounds from 9:00 to 17:00, every day and free of charge.
