Description

Gankoji Temple preserves 24 Buddhist statues designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, including its principal Yakushi Nyorai. The Mitake Tourism Association lists the Reihoden Treasure Hall as open from 10:00 to 16:00 with admission from ¥500. The collection includes outstanding Heian- and Kamakura-period works such as a Yakushi triad, a Shaka triad and the Twelve Divine Generals, making this one of Gifu’s most concentrated destinations for nationally designated Buddhist sculpture. The principal Yakushi Nyorai is a hidden image and is not normally shown, but the treasure hall itself remains highly worthwhile for viewing historic Buddhist art.
