DescriptionThe principal image in Hida Kokubunji Temple’s main hall is a wooden seated Yakushi Nyorai dating to the 12th century (Heian period). The 1.55-meter statue is carved from a single piece of cypress and is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan; temple tradition attributes it to Gyoki. With a serene expression, its right hand forms the gesture of reassurance while the left holds a medicine jar, and it has long been worshipped as a focus of Yakushi faith for healing and well-being. It can be viewed in the nationally designated Important Cultural Property main hall, rebuilt in the mid-Muromachi period, together with statues including Sho Kannon Bosatsu. Regular main hall viewing is 9:00–16:00, except December 31 and January 1.
