DescriptionThis wooden standing Jinja Daisho is enshrined and displayed in Yokokuraji Temple’s Ruriden Treasure Hall. Dating to the Heian period, it is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Jinja Daisho is a formidable guardian of the Buddhist Dharma, and this image is one of the outstanding sculptures among the 22 nationally designated Important Cultural Property statues preserved at Yokokuraji. The temple is traditionally said to have been founded by Saicho in 803 and is known as the “Shosoin of Mino” for its extensive collection of Buddhist statues, paintings and texts. Ruriden can be visited from 10:00 to 16:00, but is closed from December through March and on rainy days.
