DescriptionHozanji Temple’s Main Hall contains a wooden reclining Buddha representing Shaka Nyorai entering parinirvana. On the wall behind the image, grieving disciples are depicted, creating a unified scene of the Buddha’s passing. Hozanji is the eighth temple of the Hokuriku Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage, and its principal Thousand-Armed Kannon is a secret Buddha unveiled once every 33 years. The reclining Buddha is normally available for viewing inside the Main Hall, but visitors should contact the temple to confirm specific viewing hours.
